Tiers: one discount per step
Shopify’s amount off products discount takes one minimum requirement, a quantity or a purchase amount. A three-step price break is three discounts with the same products, dates and eligibility, kept in step by hand. When they cannot combine, Shopify applies the best one for the cart, which is what makes the setup work.
In diex, one volume or spend tiers discount holds every step, so a change to products or dates is made once.
Counting quantities
With a built-in discount, every item it applies to counts toward its minimum. Giving each product its own tiers means a separate set of discounts per product.
diex lets you choose: each cart line, all variants of a product, all products of a collection, or the whole cart.
Showing the offer
Shopify applies discounts in the cart and at checkout, but nothing on the product page tells a shopper that a third item is cheaper. diex adds theme blocks for that: a volume pricing table, a spend progress bar and a promotion banner.
The same limits apply to both
diex discounts are Shopify discounts underneath, so Shopify’s rules still apply. Shopify allows up to 25 active automatic discounts, including discounts from apps, and its combination rules decide what stacks.
Questions
Can I do tiered discounts in Shopify without an app?
Yes, with one amount off products discount per tier, each with its own minimum quantity, set so they do not combine. Shopify then applies the best one for the cart. It works for a single set of tiers; it gets harder to maintain across many products.
Does diex replace Shopify’s discounts?
