Volume discounts with mix-and-match counting

Set quantity tiers like 5% off from 10 items and 10% off from 20, then choose what counts toward a tier: each cart line, all variants of a product, every product in a collection, or the whole cart. Mix-and-match means a customer buying three colors of the same tee reaches the tier together.

Buy more, save more

QuantityDiscountEach
1-4-$24.00
5-95% off$22.80
10-1910% off$21.60
20+15% off$20.40

You have 12 in your cart. Add 8 more for 15% off.

The problem

Shopify’s own discounts hold one minimum quantity each, so a three-step price break is three separate discounts to keep in step. Every item the discount covers counts toward the same total, and nothing on the product page tells shoppers that the third one is cheaper.

How diex solves it

  • One volume discount holds every tier: a percentage or a fixed amount, with its own value for each tier.
  • You choose what counts toward a tier: each cart line, all variants of a product, a collection, or the whole cart.
  • The volume pricing table shows the tiers on the product page and tells the shopper how many more to add.

What you get

  • Four ways to count

Count each cart line on its own, add up all variants of a product, group products by collection, or count everything in the cart. The tier then applies to every line in the group.

  • Percentage or fixed amount

Choose percentage or fixed amount for the discount, then give each tier its own value. Use a percentage for simple ladders, or a fixed amount when you think in dollars rather than percent.

  • Code or automatic

Run the discount automatically at checkout, or behind a code you share with a list, a wholesale group or an influencer.

  • Shows on the product page

The volume pricing table block lists the tiers, highlights the one the chosen quantity reaches and tells the customer how many more to add.

How to set it up

  1. 1

Create a volume discount and pick the products or collections it applies to.

  2. 2

Add tiers: a minimum quantity and the discount each one unlocks.

  3. 3

Choose what counts toward a tier: line, product, collection or cart.

  4. 4

Add the volume pricing table block to your product template in the theme editor.

Common uses

Variants that belong together
Socks, tees, candles in different scents: count all variants of a product so mixed colors still reach the tier.
Build-a-bundle collections
Group a "Pick any 6" collection so any combination of its products earns the bundle price.
Stock-up pricing
Count the whole cart for consumables and refills, so every extra item moves the customer closer to the next tier.

Questions

What does mix-and-match mean?

The quantities of the cart lines in a group are added up before the tier is chosen, and the tier then applies to all of them. Groups can be all variants of a product, all products of a collection, or the whole cart.

What happens to a product that is in none of the chosen collections?

When counting by collection, products are grouped by the collections chosen under "Applies to". A product outside them counts on its own.

Does the discount apply at checkout?

Yes. Volume discounts run as a Shopify Function, so Shopify applies them in the cart and at checkout like its own discounts.
